Viet Nam has acceded to the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (the Apostille Convention). The Convention enters into force for Viet Nam on 11 September 2026. From that date, public documents executed in one Contracting Party and produced for use in the other require only a single certificate, the Apostille, in place of the previous consular legalisation procedure, in relations between Viet Nam and the Contracting Parties for which the Convention is in force with Viet Nam [cite: 6].
An Apostille certifies the authenticity of the signature, the capacity in which the person signing the document has acted and, where appropriate, the identity of the seal or stamp which the public document bears. An Apostille does not certify the content of the document
